Will the Real Dictators Please Stand Up

For ten years we’ve been assailed by the usual leftist voices, shrieking about the loss of liberty and democracy under the evil Howard regime with utterly mendacious little hit pieces like this:

Since 1996, Howard has cowed his critics, muffled the press, intimidated the ABC, gagged scientists, silenced non-government organisations, neutered Canberra’s mandarins, curtailed parliamentary scrutiny, censored the arts, banned books, criminalised protest and prosecuted whistleblowers.
Not even thirty days in power, however, and the new ALP government is taking steps to curb free speech in ways the Liberals never did.

Rudd takes control to new highs

SOME of Australia's major institutions will have their media releases vetted by the Rudd Government to make sure they reflect Labor's "key messages".

If necessary, Senator Carr would send the release to the Prime Minister's office. The department would contact the agency "regarding required changes"
This will, of course, be met by deafening silence from the lefties. And that’s because, when it comes right down to it, they don’t mind dictatorship one little bit – just as long as it’s their lot who are doing the dictating.

One former Liberal minister called the Rudd Government "control freaks".

"The CSIRO sent out a lot of things that were quite contrary to our position on climate change. We just gritted our teeth and wore it," he said.
Of course, the ALP is having none of that. . .

The secretary of the department, Mark Paterson, said there was nothing unusual about the directive, especially in the early days of a new government. Mr Paterson said statutory authorities should not be immune.

"There's a mindset with some that statutory authorities are independent for all purposes. They're not," he said.

"They are created to undertake a particular task. That doesn't give them free range or nor should it."
From the horse’s mouth, folks.

So, where are you, lefties? Where are your outraged voices now?

Vile hypocrites, the lot of you.
