Not In Your Name. . .

The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler takes a few classic pot shots at the Not In My Name crew, after this has appeared:

BAGHDAD, Iraq, April 14 - Investigators have discovered several mass graves in southern Iraq that are believed to contain the bodies of people killed by Saddam Hussein's government, including one estimated to hold 5,000 bodies, Iraqi officials say.

The graves, discovered over the past three months, have not yet been dug up because of the risks posed by the continuing insurgency and the lack of qualified forensic workers, said Bakhtiar Amin, Iraq's interim human rights minister. But initial excavations have substantiated the accounts of witnesses to a number of massacres. If the estimated body counts prove correct, the new graves would be among the largest in the grim tally of mass killings that have gradually come to light since the fall of Mr. Hussein's government two years ago. At least 290 grave sites containing the remains of some 300,000 people have been found since the American invasion two years ago, Iraqi officials say.
History will remember: the Anglosphere’s conservatives (as usual) stopped this absolutely appalling toll of mass-murder, amidst (also as usual) the shrieking protests of the Left and its jabbering fellow travellers (who, when it’s all said and done, wanted us to do absolutely nothing).

So fine - have it your way - not in your name. . .

Update: I’m of a mind to recall John Howard's prime (spoken) motivations for attaching Australia to this action (and which was not WMD, though that certainly figured). Recalling his Canberra Press Club speech in the days leading up to the commencement of action, his four main thrusts were:

  • a clear message must be sent to prospective rogue states (read old-style military adventurers);
  • Saddam would be immensely strengthened by once again avoiding the consequences of his actions;
  • we could not afford to sit on Iraq's borders, waiting for it to comply with the UN's resolutions; and
  • the global community can not, in all conscience, allow a proven (and active) mass murderer like Saddam to go unchecked and unpunished.
Amen.
